The Trout Inn

Accepted students will be welcomed by their colleges in the City of Oxford as affiliated members of the Junior Common Room. (Faculty are known collectively as the Senior Common Room.) British students have volunteered to act as counselors to make full integration into the life of the college quick and easy. Students will be eligible to join sporting teams and may row for their college. They may also choose from up to 300 clubs and societies, many of which are university-wide. Students who are interested in religion will find a warm reception in many clubs representing almost all denominations. Students from all faiths (or none) are welcome in Oxford. OSAP will introduce interested students to appropriate houses of worship during orientation.

They will have full access to most of the facilities of their college; they will be able to borrow books from their college library and from four other libraries (these five libraries have a total of one million books). They will be able to read in the University Library (where no one may borrow) for 35 hours a week; this library has 6 million books. They will be able to take most of their meals in their college dining hall. (Halls are closed on some days; all students have kitchens in their own homes.) Students are also eligible for election as termly members of the Oxford Union Society. This famous debating society is a private club founded to bring together students from all of the 45 colleges of Oxford. There are frequent parties and discos as well as guest speakers from all over the world, and there is a large lending library.

Students may choose to join the Union Society and up to 300 other clubs and teams. Membership fees for each club are paid directly by each student.

Students receive constant pastoral care from the largest overseas study office in Oxford. We have a staff of ten and we have the most overseas program students in Oxford, over 450 students last year. Our students had previously studied at over 500 U.S. colleges. We call students every two weeks to make certain everything is going well.
